So, that’s what will go first on this list:

1. The people

Don’t just look at the scenery: talk to a Canadian. You won’t regret it.

2. Chateau Frontenac

This is one of the most spectacular buildings in all of North America. It was originally built as a luxury stopover for travelers on the Canadian Pacific Railway and it opened in 1893. Since then, many additions have been made to the original hotel, making it a miracle of architectural detail. It’s not exactly your average backpacker dive. Considering that its level of service has been host to Kings and presidents, it’s not for every budget. But even if you’re a student traveling on the cheap, you ought not to miss at least a coffee in the hotel’s bar.

3. Vieux-Quebec, the old town

There’s something very odd and quaint about seeing a proper European old town on the North American continent. It’s certainly something you wouldn’t expect, but that’s exactly what Quebec is. Its maze of narrow cobblestoned streets and old-fashioned European style buildings is a marvel of true old world style. You can opt for one of the many guided tours and be shown all the picturesque views and get the expert guide information on the history of the town and its inhabitants, or you can pick up a map at one of the bookstores and set out to discover on your own.

4. Museums

Quebec, a city with over half a million inhabitants, is home to over 400 museums. No matter what subject you could think of, Quebec will probably have a museum for it. From art to history, through brewery and industry, all the way to first Nation and foreign indigenous cultures, Quebec is a goldmine for those with an interest in learning or seeing beautiful things.

5. Cuisine

French Canadian cuisine is a little miracle in itself: you’ll find some unique and incredibly tasty meals. If you take a foundation of centuries of French Culinary tradition, and you pair it with the ingredients which Canada has in abundance such as cranberries; Saskatoon berries; fiddleheads and even game such as caribou and you’ve got the makings of some amazing dishes.

When you’re in Quebec, make sure you sample some of the wonderful fare in one of its many restaurants.
